Title (because I'm all about that blog)

Before I get into today's post, here's a quick reminder that I'm blogging far oftener at The Blog of Beth Overmyer than here. But don't think I'm abandoning this place entirely. At least, not yet.

Now, onto the meat of things. Namely, silly photos that need captioning.

For example:

Doesn't this just scream "WRITE ABOUT ME"?

Also, for your consideration:

Awesome mini book and creep-tastical doll? "OUR STORIES MUST BE TOLD!"

Or how about....

"I've seen better days."

And, in case you were wondering...YES, I had no idea what to blog about. Happy Tuesday, brah.

Thank You

Thank you to those who served this country and paid the ultimate price for it.

Thank you to the families and friends of those who sacrificed it all.

Today, we remember the fallen heroes.

Hello. Alive. Writing.

I've made a schedule for myself, writing at 10:00 every night until I reach 500 words (or more depending on my mood.) It's worked pretty well so far. Four nights in a row, I surpassed my goal. Last night I took off from writing, it being the day of rest and all.

It's almost time for my next session. I left off at an interesting part. This should be...fun.

How is YOUR writing going? If you're not a writer, how's work? School? Your hobbies? Inquiring minds want to know!

Hey, y'all! Just a friendly reminder that I'm blogging more frequently at my main blog, The Blog of Beth Overmyer. There, I posted a few snippets from my main works-in-progress, but here I'm going to post some snippets from less recent WIPs. Ready? I'm not :-S

From The God Machine -

Charlie didn't help. He tried giving me pointers, but he wasn't getting along with Danny any better than I was. We both were sailors traversing rough seas. At least, that's what Charlie said.
"Try complimenting her on her clothes. Chicks dig that." Yeah, that went down well.
I cleared my throat as Danny wandered past. "Hey!" I said, perhaps too loudly.
She jumped, shot me a dark look and then stomped off. Even as I shouted the compliment after her, she continued to stalk away at top speed.
Later, right before lunch, Charlie took me aside. "Maybe you could talk to Danny about herself. You know, ask her questions and stuff. Girls like it when you take an interest in them… Oh, and try not to shout this time.”
Again I tried and failed. "Where are you from?" "What are your parents like?" "What are their names?" Etc.
After a few stiff answers, she left her half-eaten sandwich and with an "Excuse me," she stormed off to the porch.
"What did I do now?" I muttered.

Charlie smirked at me. "I said ask her questions, not interrogate."

From my second attempt at a novel (in my teens), One Was Let to Slip Away -

Einar sighed as they stopped and turned to face one another. “Falí is well, is he not?” he asked, to which Clissier nodded. “What new ill tidings do you wish to bear to me, then?”

They had arrived where a few wicked trees seemed to close in about them, grabbing at their cloaks with twisted hands, meaning to trip and ruin them. But the fingers instantly recoiled as Falí came tramping along close behind. He swiped at the cracked hands with an open palm, and they retreated farther, trembling at the contact. Laughing, Falí smote another low branch and commanded the rest of the bracken to part the way.

“Careful, Falí,” Clissier warned him. Her eyes burned with a dangerous fire, and Falí quickly obeyed as the inferno swept over him. (Author's note: UGH.)

Rained Out

I've been close to gathering up my tent, packing the supplies, putting out the dying embers of the fire, and heading back home to Reality. Camp NaNoWriMo isn't going as well as I had hoped it would. But never you fear: LIFE HAPPENS.  Life has happened to me. But words will happen again.

How about you? How's YOUR writing going? If you're not a writer, what're you readin'?

Goin' Campin'

I'm packin' my bags and leavin' the comforts of home...

NOT! ...-ish.

Okay, okay. What I'm really doing is participating in Camp NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) in April.

Curious? Here's a link: CLICK ME

I'm working on a project I started last year: The Warring Goblet (working title.) I plan on adding another 29,999 words to the manuscript before May 1st. Can I do it? I'm not sure, but I'll try.

Wish me luck!

Whip that WIP!

A new month is here. I'm still here. Writing, reading, and--a little arithmetic, but not much. I hit SUBMIT on a manuscript, and sent out another via mail. So, fingers crossed! Actually, I don't believe in luck. If you are so inclined, please pray for me. Seriously.

Books I've read this year (in no particular order):

1. The Choice by Nicholas Sparks
2. Dorothy Must Die
3. The Wicked Will Rise
4. Lock & Mori
5. Brooklyn
6. The Ripper Gene
7. Emma by Jane Austen (finished it, is more like it)
8. The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan (ditto)
9. Gunpowder Green

Right now I'm reading The Magicians. And there are hundreds of others on the TBR pile. Yeah.

I posted on my other blog that I have three main works-in-progress. I'll mention them here:

1. The Warring Goblet (heroic fantasy) Poldark meets Home Alone meets Lord of the Rings
2. Doomsday (high fantasy) Harry Potter meets Jurassic Park meets Frequency
3. Untitled (paranormal mystery) Merlin meets Community meets an Agatha Christie novel meets Wonder

Fun times.

Speaking of writing, I should be doing that. Right now. Other than blogging, but of course.

It's 2:15 in the morning. Everyone is snoring, the sound I loathe above all others. Well, that and heavy breathing, which is pretty much the same thing. Oh, and people chomping on their food. Great, now I'm really irritated.

In my creative writing group, we're covering the five senses. We've done sight, sound, touch, and taste. Scent is left, and I'm a little apprehensive. The activities for each class under the sense theme have been hands on. I could have people smell things and write about scent, but I can see people having sneezing fits all over the place. Le ugh.

Did I mention snoring irritates me?

It's 2:19 in the morning, and my brain can barely form a coherent thought. I think I'd better sign off. Just wanted to pop in to say that I am not yet dead, and to give a reminder: I'm mostly blogging on my WordPress account: The Blog of Beth Overmyer.

Thanks for stopping by,

The Doom and Gloom Novel

...is funner than it sounds ;) I just don't want to give away the title, as I'm guarding some of the book's secrets like a dragon. This, however, is a taste of what I'm going on about. Note that this is a FIRST draft--a regular CFD (crappy first draft.) It is one of several works-in-progress. I hope you enjoy!

Inspiration is Everywhere

Inspiration is everywhere.

Sunday night, I went to a restaurant/micro brewery-thing. I didn't go there with the intention of being vigilant for inspiration, but I wasn't closed to the possibility.

The first thing that caught my eye: the place mats/drink menus. Such rich descriptions of the complex flavors of each drink. Made me want to get back to my bartender story. I took the disposable mat home, and will use it for research. Come on, I need to know the difference between malt liquor and a white wine, and I don't really drink. Menu and the web to the rescue!

The next thing to catch my attention were people's body languages. So fun to watch the differences between the men and women at the party (I forgot to mention: it was a party. There I said it.) The women mirrored body language of almost everyone they were talking to...a lot. Mirroring, according to my studies, means your subconscious intent is to please, agree, or flatter...or you're like-minded on something.

The men, however...One was on his phone, texting. Two were talking across from each other, and their body languages were not mirroring. Made me think that the two were internally disagreeing about sports or something (one's arms across chest while the other was gesturing. Licking lips, wanting to speak. Tight smiles.) 'Twas fun to observe and guess. Maybe they were just bored.

And I got a fun idea for my TV series when two friends mirrored each other a little too well. It involves glasses. That's all I"m saying.

Inspiration is everywhere. You just have to be receptive to it.

The Am Writing Board

As you probably (hopefully) know by now, I am mostly on my other blog, The Blog of Beth Overmyer. I'm keeping this Blogger blog because I have quite the backlog. Or whatever you want to call all those posts from the past. And I like you guys.

Anyhoosie, with that out of the way, I thought I'd talk about my Am Writing Board. Behold:

This ^ is an example of my weekday board. I clear it when I get to Friday, and then write in the three days for the weekend.

Why, you ask? Well, it keeps me motivated. I try to post pics of the board on Facebook, no matter how crummy the word count. Accountability, transparency, and all that good stuff.

Well, my goal is to write at least 400 words a day: 200 on the goblets novel, 200 on the new project. And for February, add in the chaos of finishing and revising a literary novel. So that's one high fantasy, one Georgian fantasy, and one literary...all worked on every day next month. It'll be interesting, keeping characters and plotlines straight, but it'll be fun.

I do love a good challenge!

Bye for now!

Breaking Radio Silence

Hello and happy New Year! I hope 2016 has been treating you well. If not, we only have 358-ish days left of it to endure.

As for me...Well, I'm here. And I'm not here. The truth is, running two blogs, writing, and social networking is le difficult. Oui. Ouchie.

Not to mention that fact that WordPress is oh so much shinier. (Can I say that here? I mean, I can. I did. But MAY I?)

Writing is...going on. Yup. I am a little off-schedule to meet my goal of 100,000 words by the end of the year, but I still have time ;)

Well, must dash. Lots of things to do before I hit the hay at 5:30 AM. Yes, I am ridiculously tired, but you digress. Lots to do. Like stare at Twitter until I think of something clever to say. Oy vey. Wish me luck, Chuck.

Keep your pen on the page,
